Whelks, a marine gastropod or sea snail, there are many different types of whelks: rock or razor shells, Atlantic purple urchins, periwinkle, and conchs for example. They are a popular dish in Europe as they have a sweet taste similar to Scallops and go beautifully with garlic and butter!
Whelks are a great source of calcium, zinc, protein and iron. A small plate of whelks contains more calcium than a glass of milk! They are great for maintaining healthy bones. Whelks are also very rich in sodium and can help to keep your blood pressure down.
Whelks come ready cooked and out of their shell, all you need to do is defrost eat and enjoy.

Amazing flavour and texture. Lovely in salad as they are very fresh but absolutely incredible in tomato linguine. Just after 2 minutes of cooking the whelks contributed beautifully to the flavour of sauce. Very happy with this product and will buy it again.

This is another product that is no longer as plentiful as it used to be. Bradley’s Whelks are full of flavour and ready to eat. Just defrost and enjoy in any of several different ways, stir frys, salads etc., or simply eat a few as they come, a little salt, pepper and vinegar, and you have an absolutely delicious snack. Whelks can become tough and chewy if overcooked, but these are perfect. Perhaps the freezing process helps to tenderize the flesh. Some people may be put off by their appearance, don’t be, the taste is fantastic and there are health benefits too. I am 83 and they haven’t done me any harm. Memories of seafood stalls at the seaside, happy days. Ah

Absolutely cracking Whelks ,lovely and flavoursome, just add white balsamic and chunky tomatoes and red onion salt and ground black pepper, garlic optional add a splash of olive oil ,crusty bread and jobs a good un .
Will be ordering again , got to thank my dad god bless him for asking me to try them when I was about 5 as well as cockles ,winkles,mussels and eel ,cheers pops see you on the other side.
